I’ve been gone for a week on vacation.  The great thing about running is how easy it is to pack your stuff.  I only needed my running shoes, some shorts and racing singlets.  It hardly took any space in my suit case.
All in all, a good week for running.  I ran some in Alexandria, VA [...]

The high school track was open last night.  They are still doing some work, however, the surface is complete with lane markings and everything.  The Gulf Coast Running Club had a good showing at the track last night.  It looked to be about seven of us.  Trying to find someone to run your interval with [...]

Long and Solid

Awesome!  I got up early and out the door at 5:40 AM.  I ran FM 518 over the Kemah Bridge to the Seabrook trails and made a turnaround along the birding trail for a total of 14 miles.  I ran a half-marathon in just under 1:54.  Best part yet was running a negative split from the [...]

Lunar Rendezvous

I volunteered at a local 5K this morning.  The Lunar Rendezvous is one of the oldest 5Ks in the area.  I have never run it.  I have volunteered for about 10 of the 11 years I have lived down here.  It was hot this morning and very little shade for folks.  I was happy to [...]

I had my final treatment by the chiropractor today.  Before my visit, I decided to give the hamstring a “full” test.  I ran a 20 minute tempo at an 8:02 pace.  It’s not the fastest I could run, but I knew I was pushing it.  After the “official tempo”, I pushed the pace down to [...]

I went to the track tonight for some interval training.  The plan called for doing 12 30 second intervals.  To warm up and get some miles in, I ran 2 miles.  For the first mile, I never looked at my watch.  I ran it at 8:25.  I pushed a little harder in mile 2 and [...]

Easy Training Day

Monday’s are my day for recovery and a little cross training.  I was on the treadmill for a little over 20 minutes.  It felt good, no aches or pains, and I could have gone further.  Just as I was ready to hop on the elliptical trainer, someone else grabbed it.  The fitness center I go [...]

The heat is on!  I got out before 7 AM on the Seabrook trails.  The first couple of miles were OK, but boy it got hot rather quickly.  It was a good run for me.  My legs felt great.  I put in 8 miles at about an 8:50 pace.  I am surprised how quick the [...]

Long Run

Another early morning (5:30 AM) for a run.  I met up with the Gulf Coast Running Club for an 11 mile run.  According to my garmin, we ran just over 11.1 miles.  Although the route can be somewhat boring (out and back), it is nice to run with some other folks.  I accomplished everything today [...]

Easy Tempo

The hamstring is much better.  I did hold back today.  I went out fairly quickly at an 8:44 pace.  I decided to stick with my schedule and see if I could get a tempo in.  Interestingly, I only picked the pace up to about an 8:30 pace.  It was comfortably hard, but nowhere near the tempo [...]
