Into the breach

The Houston Marathon is coming up this Sunday.  I have no idea where my training is for this event.  Tonight, I run my traditional track workout before the marathon.  A nice and easy 5K at “marathon pace”.  The weather was gorgeous.  First mile, I hit a split of 7:28.  It felt easy.  Second mile, I’m still running easy.  Second mile split was at 7:24.  The third mile was feeling easy.  Halfway threw it, I checked my pace and it at 7:22.  Now, I throw discretion out the window.  But, I did not go crazy.  My last mile was at 7:20. Even the last tenth of a mile, I kept it in check.  Not a bad workout.  5K in 22 and change.

There is no doubt, tonight was not marathon pace for me.  But, it felt good.  Considering how my diet has been the last two weeks, I felt good tonight.  I need to be mindful of my eating for the rest of the week.  I need to keep it simple and light.

Otherwise, it’s been quiet  My son and I were up in Arkansas for the New Year.  It was a “Red Neck” special for us.  Gun shooting and fireworks at night, eating pizza in front of the TV and watching some action flicks, indeed, it was a nice weekend.

Hopefully my next blog will be a pleasant report on the 40th Houston Marathon.
