No Complaints

Running on the trails is good for both mind and body.  Running in the woods certainly cleanses the mind.  There is no traffic, only nature.  It’s also good for the body.  The legs need to work a little harder on the soft muddy stuff, but, at the same time, it’s easy on the joints.
I got [...]

Go long

I had it in my mind to run a 20 miler today.  Well, I did it.  I wish I had an 18 miler in my mind.  All things considered, the weatehr was not too bad.  A little rain and no sun.  Yes, it was the typical high 70s with 100% humidity, but for here that’s [...]

Back in the Oven

I can’t believe that Arkansas is “cool”, but compared to Houston, it’s like the North Pole.  The track workout on Tuesday was OK.  We ran a 12X200 meters.  I ran them OK, but nothing special.  Friday’s workout consisted of running from the house to the Kemah Bridge and then running it three times.  My last [...]

Brutal

The heat is on!!!  For the last 8 months, I’ve been driving down to the Seabrook trails to meet BARC for their Sunday 6:30AM run.  With it getting so hot, I decided to leave from my house at 5:45 to meet everyone at the trail at 6:30.  The first 12 or so  miles were OK.  [...]

Simple Enjoyments

I think not racing is best for me.  I put way too much stress on myself.  The last couple of runs have been pretty high on the enjoyment scale.  On Wednesday night, a few of us BARCers went down to Rice University to run with the Bayou City Road Runners (BCRR).   And, today was an [...]

I ran the Club’s predict your time 5K yesterday.  I was a little fast, but I still managed 7th overall.  Right after the race, a few of us  headed out for another 8+ miles.  With the warm-up, I put in a little over 12 miles.  It was a good day for running.
Today was 15 miles [...]

I got to hit the trails at Jack Brooks Park again.  While at the track on Tuesday, a couple of us discussed meeting at Jack Brooks on Wednesday evening.  With work being so crazy, I was very tentative about making it to the trails.  Long story short, I optimistically packed my running gear to work.  [...]

Old Acquaintances

Julie and I went down to Jack Brooks Park in Hitchcock for some trail running.  It’s been over 5 years since I’ve been out there for a run.  I wound up losing my way a couple of times, but nothing too bad.  The best part of the trails are actually the mountain bike path.  There [...]

Triple long run for the weekend.  I ran a 15 and now a couple of 14s.  My body is holding up well to this stress.  I took it out fast this morning with my average pace at 8:14.  A few of those miles were at or below 8 min miles.  It was a pleasant start [...]

Two easy runs

After my debacle at the track on Tuesday, it’s been nice to get a couple of easy five mile ”Zen” runs into the schedule.  The good news is that my body and mind  still feel good.  My training partner is having problems with her ITB.  I’m keeping my fingers crossed for her.  Not only do I hope [...]
